Phase 2: The Home Study

From what I’ve gathered so far, the home study feels like a formal version of the classic “Why are you still single?” holiday conversation.  Its terrifying.

It consists of two in agency meetings, two group classes and one in home visit.  It’s part of the screening process but also a way for the agency to really know me and use this information when matching me with a parent.  It’s necessary.  It’s terrifying.

The Irish coping way is to deflect these with humor and thinking about such answers has helped relieve my anxiety.  (I hope I don’t have to put into parenthesis that I would never say these in an interview, but just incase here is that disclaimer).

I’d love to wear this shirt to discuss the section around how I was disciplined as a child…

What’s motivated you to decide to adopt right now?  My dogs are getting older and humans live longer.

Why adoption over a biological child? I couldn’t imagine giving wine up for 9 months.

For a great serious read that well reflects how I’m feeling see: Are You ‘Good Enough’ To Be A Mother? .

Home Study Timeline:

***Note that the first phases of the home study were nowhere near as invasive as I imagined.  I’ll update my entire home study post after the home visit.***
